Running Pace Calculator
Find your pace, finish time, or distance for running or walking — enter any two of the three to solve for the missing one. Runs in your browser.
A free running and walking pace calculator. Enter any two of distance, time, and pace, and this calculator instantly finds the third, along with your equivalent speed. Works in kilometers or miles. Useful for planning a race pace, checking a training split, or converting between pace and speed. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing is stored.
How to use this tool
- 01Choose what to solve forPick "Find my pace," "Find my finish time," or "Find my distance."
- 02Choose your unitKilometers or miles — this applies to both the distance and the pace.
- 03Enter the other two valuesFill in whichever fields are shown, and the result updates automatically.
When is this useful?
- Planning a race paceKnow your target finish time and the race distance? Find the pace per kilometer or mile you need to hold.
- Estimating a finish timeKnow your usual training pace and the race distance? Estimate your finish time before race day.
- Checking pace vs. speedConvert a training pace (minutes per km or mile) to a speed (km/h or mph), or the other way around, for treadmills or GPS devices that show speed instead of pace.
Examples
- Finding pace for a 5KDistance 5 km, time 25:00 → pace is 5:00 min/km, equivalent to a speed of 12 km/h.
- Finding a marathon finish timeDistance 42.195 km at a 5:41 min/km pace → estimated finish time is about 4:00:00.
How the calculation works
Pace (time per unit distance) is time divided by distance. Time is pace multiplied by distance. Distance is time divided by pace. Speed is simply the reciprocal of pace, converted to a per-hour figure (3,600 seconds divided by the pace in seconds).
Inputs, outputs, and assumptions
Enter distance, time, and pace values above 0, in whichever combination the selected mode requires. Distance and pace both use the same unit (kilometers or miles) you select — there is no need to convert between them separately, since choosing the unit once keeps both consistent throughout the calculation.
Limitations
This calculator assumes a perfectly even pace throughout the distance — it does not account for elevation changes, fatigue, negative or positive splits, or real-world pacing variation. Use it as a planning estimate, not a guarantee of race-day performance.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my pace?
Divide your total time by the distance covered. For example, 25 minutes over 5 km is a pace of 5:00 min/km.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Speed (per hour) is 60 divided by the pace in minutes per unit distance. A 5:00 min/km pace equals 12 km/h.
Can I use miles instead of kilometers?
Yes. Switch the unit to miles, and both the distance and pace fields use miles consistently.
Does this account for hills or fatigue?
No. This calculator assumes a constant, even pace for the whole distance — it does not model elevation, fatigue, or pacing strategy.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
