Semester Grade Calculator
Combine assignments, tests, projects, and the final exam by weight into a semester grade. Runs in your browser.
For a full semester grade, your weights should add up to 100%. The total weight is shown so you can check it. Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.
A free semester grade calculator that combines the parts of a course into one grade. Enter each component, such as assignments, tests, a project, and the final exam, with its score and its weight, and the tool works out the semester result. It comes pre-filled with common components you can rename, and you can add or remove rows to match your syllabus. For a complete grade the weights should total 100%, and the tool shows the total so you can check. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is stored.
How to use this tool
- 01List the course componentsRows start with common parts (assignments, tests, project, final). Rename them to match your syllabus.
- 02Enter each score and weightType the score you got and the weight of each component. Add or remove rows as needed.
- 03Read the semester gradeThe semester grade and the total weight update as you type.
When is this useful?
- Predict a final gradeEnter what you have and estimate scores for the rest to project your semester grade.
- Match your syllabusSet the exact components and weights your course uses.
- Compare scenariosTry different final exam scores to see the effect on the semester grade.
Examples
- Four componentsAssignments 90 at 20%, tests 85 at 30%, project 88 at 20%, and final 80 at 30% give a semester grade of about 84.9%.
- Heavier finalIncreasing the final’s weight makes the final exam score matter more for the result.
- Check the totalIf your weights only add to 90%, the tool still shows a result and flags the total so you can fix it.
Formula and how the calculation works
Each component contributes its score times its weight. The semester grade is sum(score x weight) / sum(weight). When the weights total 100%, this is a straight weighted average of the components.
Inputs, outputs, and assumptions
You enter a name, a score, and a weight per component. The tool returns the semester grade and the total weight. It assumes each component’s score already reflects everything inside it (for example, the average of all quizzes).
Supported modes or scenarios
Use the pre-filled components or replace them. Leave a component blank while you wait for a grade; it is skipped until both its score and weight are filled. Watch the total weight to make sure it adds up to 100% for a full grade.
Limitations and common mistakes
A common mistake is weights that do not sum to 100%, or entering a single quiz score for a whole category. The tool does not drop lowest scores, apply a curve, or round to a letter grade. Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.
Privacy and local processing
The calculation runs in your browser on your device. Your grades are never uploaded, stored, or shared, and closing the tab clears everything.
Frequently asked questions
Should my weights add up to 100%?
For a complete semester grade, yes. The tool shows the total weight so you can check. It still calculates a weighted result if the total is different.
How is this different from the weighted grade calculator?
It is the same math, framed for a semester with common components pre-filled. Use whichever fits how you think about the course.
Can I predict my grade before the final?
Yes. Enter your real scores and an estimated final score to project the semester grade.
Does it drop the lowest score or curve?
No. It uses the components you enter as they are.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter is stored.
