GPA Calculator

Calculate a weighted GPA from your courses, credits, and grade points. Add or remove courses. Runs in your browser.

Enter grade points on your own scale (for example 0 to 4.0). Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.

A free GPA calculator that works out a weighted grade point average from your courses. Add each course with its credits (or units) and its grade points, and the tool weights every course by its credits, so a heavier course counts more. Because grading scales differ, you enter grade points on your own scale (for example 0 to 4.0), which keeps the result correct for your school. Add or remove courses as needed. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is stored.

How to use this tool

  1. 01Add your coursesEach row is one course. The course name is optional; the calculation uses credits and grade points.

When is this useful?

  • Track your GPASee your GPA for a term or a whole program as you enter grades.
  • Plan a targetTry different grade points to see what you need to reach a GPA goal.
  • Check a transcriptRe-add your courses to confirm the GPA on a transcript or portal.
03

Examples

  • Three coursesA 3-credit course at 4.0, a 4-credit at 3.7, and a 3-credit at 3.3 gives a weighted GPA of about 3.66 across 10 credits.
  • A heavier course counts moreA 5-credit course at 3.0 pulls the average more than a 1-credit course at 4.0.
  • On a 0 to 5 scaleIf your school uses a 5.0 scale, enter grade points up to 5 and the weighted average stays on that scale.
04

Formula and how the calculation works

GPA is a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s credits by its grade points, add those up, and divide by the total credits. So GPA = sum(credits x grade points) / sum(credits). A course with more credits has a bigger effect on the result.

05

Inputs, outputs, and assumptions

You enter credits and grade points per course (the name is optional). The tool returns the weighted GPA and the total credits. It assumes grade points are already on your scale; it does not convert letter grades to points, since that mapping varies by school.

06

Supported modes or scenarios

Add a row for each course and remove any you do not need. Rows with missing credits or grade points are skipped, so you can leave a course blank while you gather its grade. It works for a single term or a whole program.

07

Limitations and common mistakes

A common mistake is entering a percentage instead of grade points, or mixing scales between courses. Some schools weight honors or AP courses, exclude pass/fail credits, or round differently; this tool does none of that automatically. Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.

08

Privacy and local processing

Every calculation runs in your browser on your device. Your courses and grades are never uploaded, stored, or sent to analytics, and closing the tab clears everything.

Frequently asked questions

What grade points do I enter?

Enter points on your school’s scale, for example 4.0 for an A on a 4.0 scale. The tool does not assume a scale, so it stays correct for your school.

How is a weighted GPA different from a simple average?

A weighted GPA multiplies each course by its credits, so bigger courses count more. A simple average treats every course equally.

Does it convert letter grades to points?

No. Letter-to-point mapping varies by school, so you enter the grade points yourself to keep the result accurate.

Can I calculate GPA for one semester?

Yes. Add only that semester’s courses for a term GPA, or add everything for a cumulative GPA.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
