CAPE GPA Calculator

Calculate a unit-weighted GPA for CAPE using the exam board's published Grade I-VII point scale. Not an official transcript equivalence.

GPA (0–6 scale)
Total units
Units entered

Uses CAPE's own published unit point scale (Grade I = 6 points down to Grade VII = 0 points), weighted by the number of units each subject is worth (most CAPE units are single-unit; some, like Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies, are double-unit). This is an educational estimate of a GPA-style average, not an official transcript equivalence, and Tooleem is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

A free CAPE GPA calculator using the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination's own published unit grade-point scale: Grade I is worth 6 points down to Grade VII at 0 points. Add each unit with its grade and how many units it counts as (most CAPE subjects are one unit; a few, like Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies, are two units), and the tool computes a unit-weighted GPA on the 0–6 scale. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is stored.

01

How to use this tool

  1. 01Add each CAPE unitType the unit name (for example Pure Mathematics Unit 1), how many units it counts as (1 or 2), and the grade you got or expect, Grade I to Grade VII.
  2. 02Add or remove unitsUse "Add unit" for every subject unit you are counting, or remove one you do not need.
  3. 03Read your GPAThe GPA updates as you type, weighted by units, on CAPE's 0-to-6 point scale.
02

When is this useful?

  • Track your CAPE GPAEnter your units as results come in to see your running GPA across a CAPE programme.
  • Compare scenariosTry different grades for units you have not sat yet to see how they would move your overall GPA.
  • Check a transcript summaryRe-enter your units and grades to cross-check a GPA figure from a transcript or portal.
03

Examples

  • Two single-unit subjectsGrade I (6 points) and Grade II (5 points), each worth 1 unit, give a GPA of (6+5)/2 = 5.5.
  • A double-unit subject counts moreA 2-unit subject at Grade I (6 points x2 = 12) alongside a 1-unit subject at Grade IV (3 points x1 = 3) gives (12+3)/3 = 5.0.
  • Lower grades pull the average downA Grade VII (0 points) unit averaged with a Grade I (6 points) unit, both 1 unit, gives a GPA of 3.0.
04

The CAPE unit point scale

CAPE grades each unit from Grade I (the strongest, 6 points) down to Grade VII (0 points): Grade I = 6, Grade II = 5, Grade III = 4, Grade IV = 3, Grade V = 2, Grade VI = 1, Grade VII = 0. This is a fixed, published scale, not a raw-mark conversion.

05

Formula and how the calculation works

GPA = sum(units x grade points) / sum(units). Each unit's grade is converted to points on the scale above, multiplied by how many units that subject counts as, summed across every unit you enter, and divided by the total units. A double-unit subject affects the average twice as much as a single-unit one.

06

Inputs, outputs, and assumptions

You enter a name (for labeling only), the number of units (1 or 2), and the grade for each unit. The tool assumes the CAPE published point scale exactly and does not apply any institution-specific weighting or rounding beyond that.

07

Limitations

This is an educational estimate of a GPA-style average, not an official CAPE transcript, and it does not confirm eligibility for any scholarship, matriculation, or credit-transfer scheme — those are set by the receiving institution. Some universities recompute or weight CAPE results differently for admissions purposes; always confirm with the institution you are applying to.

08

Sources and limitations

The unit grade-point scale (Grade I = 6 through Grade VII = 0) follows CXC's own published CAPE syllabus documentation, current as of 2026. Tooleem is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

09

Privacy

Every calculation runs in your browser on your device. The units and grades you enter are never uploaded, stored, or sent to analytics, and closing or refreshing the page clears everything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CAPE grade point scale?

CAPE units are graded Grade I to Grade VII, worth 6 down to 0 points respectively: Grade I = 6, Grade II = 5, Grade III = 4, Grade IV = 3, Grade V = 2, Grade VI = 1, Grade VII = 0.

How many units is each CAPE subject worth?

Most CAPE subjects are one unit (Unit 1 and Unit 2 are graded and counted separately). A few subjects, such as Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies, are single double-weighted units. Check your own subject's unit weighting if unsure.

Is this GPA the same as my official CAPE transcript?

No. This is an educational estimate using the published point scale, not an official transcript equivalence. Universities and colleges may compute or weight CAPE results differently for admissions.

Is this an official CXC tool?

No. Tooleem is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the units and grades you enter are never uploaded or stored.
