Grades I–III are commonly treated as meeting matriculation requirements at Caribbean universities and colleges, but exact entry requirements vary by institution and programme — always confirm with the school you are applying to. This tool only summarizes grades you already have or expect; it does not predict a grade from raw marks, and Tooleem is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

A free CSEC grade average calculator for students, parents, and teachers. Enter each subject and the overall grade you have (or expect) on the Grade I to Grade VI scale used for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, and the tool summarizes how many subjects fall at Grade I–III, how many at Grade IV–VI, and a simple average across the subjects you enter. This is a summary of grades you already have, not a predictor: it does not estimate a grade from raw exam marks, since per-subject mark boundaries are set by CXC each sitting and are not published in a stable, reusable way. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.

How to use this tool

  1. 01Add a row for each subjectType the subject name (for example Mathematics, English A, or Principles of Business) and pick the overall grade, Grade I to Grade VI, for that subject.
  2. 02Add or remove subjectsUse "Add subject" for more rows, or remove a row you do not need. Add as many subjects as you are taking.
  3. 03Read the summaryYou get a count of subjects at Grade I–III, a count at Grade IV–VI, and a simple average grade across every subject you entered.
02

When is this useful?

  • Track predicted or mock gradesEnter the grades your school predicts or the grades from a mock exam to see where you stand across all your subjects at a glance.
  • Summarize actual resultsAfter results are released, enter your real overall grades to get a quick pass-count summary instead of counting them by hand.
  • Compare subject strengthSee at a glance which subjects are your strongest (Grade I–II) and which need more attention (Grade V–VI).
03

Examples

  • Five subjects, mixed gradesGrades I, I, II, III, and IV give 4 subjects at Grade I–III, 1 at Grade IV–VI, and an average grade of 2.2.
  • All strong gradesFive subjects all at Grade I or II give an average grade between 1.0 and 2.0, and a full count of 5 at Grade I–III.
  • A mix that needs more subjects to judgeOne subject at Grade V is not enough on its own to judge overall performance — add the rest of your subjects for a fair summary.

The CSEC grading scale

CSEC results are reported as an overall grade from Grade I (the strongest) to Grade VI (the weakest), alongside three Profile grades (letters A to F) covering knowledge, comprehension, and reasoning for that subject. This tool works with the overall Grade I–VI scale only; it does not compute or predict Profile grades.

05

How the summary is calculated

Each graded subject is counted once: subjects at Grade I, II, or III count toward "Grade I–III", and subjects at Grade IV, V, or VI count toward "Grade IV–VI". The average grade is the sum of the numeric grade positions (Grade I = 1 through Grade VI = 6) divided by the number of graded subjects — a lower average means stronger overall grades. A subject only counts once it has both a name and a selected grade.

06

What this tool does not do

It does not predict a grade from raw exam marks: the mark-to-grade boundary for a given subject and paper is set by CXC through a moderation process each sitting and is not published as a stable, reusable table, so any "marks to grade" estimate would be unreliable. It also does not check university or college matriculation eligibility for you — those requirements vary by institution and programme.

07

Sources and limitations

The Grade I–VI structure follows CXC's own published description of how CSEC results are graded (cxc.org), current as of 2026. Tooleem is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). This is an educational summary tool, not an official result, a prediction service, or academic advice — always confirm your actual results through the official CXC results portal or your school.

08

Privacy

Every calculation runs in your browser on your device. The subjects and grades you enter are never uploaded, stored, or sent to analytics, and closing or refreshing the page clears everything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CSEC grading scale?

CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) results use an overall grade from Grade I (strongest) to Grade VI (weakest) for each subject, along with three Profile grades (A to F) covering knowledge, comprehension, and reasoning.

Which grades count as a pass?

Grades I to III are commonly treated as meeting matriculation requirements at many Caribbean universities and colleges. Exact requirements vary by institution and programme, so always confirm with the school you are applying to.

Can this tool predict my grade from my raw marks?

No. The mark-to-grade boundary for each subject and paper is set by CXC through moderation each sitting and is not published as a stable table, so this tool only summarizes grades you already have or expect — it does not predict a grade from marks.

Does this compute Profile grades (A-F)?

No. This tool works with the overall Grade I–VI scale only. Profile grades are a separate part of a CSEC result.

Is this an official CXC tool?

No. Tooleem is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). For your official results, use the CXC results portal or your school.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the subjects and grades you enter are never uploaded or stored.
