How to use this tool

  1. 01Choose your unit, subject area, and stageThese adjust the checklist wording and priority — for example, sciences and languages get slightly different evidence-gathering items, and your current stage highlights what is most relevant right now.
  2. 02Pick a checklist style and optional remindersQuick gives the essentials; detailed adds more items per section. Turn on teacher conference, citation, and presentation reminders if you want them included.
  3. 03Add an optional due date and notesA due date shows days remaining and a simple three-phase self-set plan. Notes are echoed back on your printed or copied checklist.
  4. 04Work through the checklistClick any item to cycle its status between To do, In progress, and Done. Print or copy when you are ready.
02

When is this useful?

  • Starting a new IAUse the checklist as a starting structure so you do not skip a stage, from topic selection through to submission.
  • Checking progress mid-projectSet your current stage to see which sections are most relevant right now, and track status item by item.
  • Final check before submissionSet the stage to "final check" and work through submission readiness, teacher feedback, and formatting one more time.
03

Examples

  • A sciences IA in the research stageChoose Sciences and "Research / data collection" to get a checklist that highlights recording raw data and observations accurately.
  • A business IA close to the deadlineChoose Business / Economics / Accounting and add a due date to get a simple backward plan across research, drafting, and final review.
  • A detailed checklist with all reminders onSwitch to "Detailed checklist" and turn on all three reminder toggles for the most complete version of the checklist.
04

How the checklist is generated

The checklist has generic project-planning sections that apply to any CAPE subject: topic and research question, plan and timeline, sources and evidence, method, drafting, analysis, formatting and references, teacher feedback, and submission readiness. Your subject area lightly adjusts the wording of the evidence/sources item (for example, sciences emphasizes raw data, languages emphasizes authentic text samples). Your checklist style (quick or detailed) controls how many items appear per section. Your current stage sets which sections are marked higher priority, purely as a planning aid — it does not track or predict how much of your actual IA is complete.

05

Sources and limitations

This is an independent planning helper. It is not an official CXC or CAPE document, and it does not reproduce CXC's IA rubric, marking scheme, syllabus wording, or official mark allocations, which are copyrighted exam-board material. It does not replace your teacher's instructions, your school's deadline, your current syllabus, or official assessment guidance. Requirements vary by subject, school, and year, so always check your current subject syllabus and your teacher's instructions before relying on this checklist.

06

About the optional due date

If you add a due date, the tool shows the number of days remaining and a simple three-phase plan splitting that time roughly into thirds. This is a self-set planning aid based on the date you entered, not an official CXC or school deadline. Always follow the actual submission deadline given by your teacher or school.

07

Non-affiliation

08

Privacy

The checklist, your due date, notes, and item statuses are all built and tracked entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded to a server, stored, or sent to analytics, and refreshing the page resets everything.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official CXC IA rubric or marking scheme?

No. This is an independent, practical planning checklist. It does not reproduce CXC's actual IA rubric, marking scheme, or syllabus wording — always follow your teacher, school, and current syllabus for what is actually assessed.

Does this tool predict my IA grade?

No. It does not predict, estimate, or claim to know what score or grade you will receive. Status and priority are self-tracking planning aids only.

Does the checklist change by subject area?

The sources/evidence item is lightly reworded by subject area (for example, sciences vs. languages), and the checklist style and optional reminders change the number of items. The overall structure stays generic and safe for any CAPE subject.

Is the due date an official deadline?

No. The due date and timeline are based only on the date you enter and are a simple self-set planning aid, not an official CXC or school deadline. Always confirm your actual deadline with your teacher or school.

Is this an official CXC or CAPE tool?

No. Tooleem is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

Is my data saved?

No. The checklist runs in your browser and nothing you enter — including notes and due date — is uploaded or stored.
