A free CGPA to percentage calculator that runs entirely in your browser. It uses the CBSE indicative formula (percentage = CGPA × 9.5) which the board derived because students who scored an A1 grade (91–100 marks) averaged about 95 marks, and 95 divided by the A1 grade point of 10 equals 9.5. Enter your CGPA and the tool shows the indicative percentage instantly; you can also change the multiplier if your university uses a different value. This is an educational estimate to help you read a CGPA in percentage terms, not an official mark sheet. Different boards and universities use different conversion rules, so always check your institution’s official method before using a figure for admissions or applications. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored. The calculation happens on your device.

Examples

  • CGPA 8.88.8 × 9.5 = 83.6%. A CGPA of 8.8 is an indicative 83.6 percent under the CBSE formula.
  • CGPA 8.28.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%.
  • Perfect CGPA 1010 × 9.5 = 95%. This is the anchor point of the CBSE scale, a 10 CGPA maps to 95 percent, not 100.
  • Where the 9.5 multiplier comes from

CBSE analysed several years of results and found that students awarded an A1 grade (91–100 marks) scored, on average, about 95 marks. Dividing that 95 by the A1 grade point of 10 gives 9.5, which became the multiplier for the whole scale. That is why the formula is indicative: it reflects a historical average, not your exact marks.

  • Sources and limitations

This tool is an educational estimate only and is not affiliated with CBSE or any board or university. The 9.5 multiplier is the CBSE indicative convention; other Indian universities use their own rules (for example, some use a 10-point multiplier or a different formula), so the result may not match your official transcript. Conversion rules can change. Always check your institution’s official method or your mark sheet before relying on a figure for admissions, jobs, or applications.
