Percentage to CGPA Calculator

Convert a percentage to a CGPA using the CBSE formula (percentage ÷ 9.5), with an adjustable divisor for other universities. Runs in your browser.

CGPA
8.2

The CBSE reverse formula is percentage ÷ 9.5. Some universities use a different rule (e.g. Anna University: %/10 + 0.75), so change the divisor if needed.

Share toolWhatsApp

A free percentage to CGPA calculator that runs entirely in your browser. It uses the standard CBSE reverse formula (CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5) which is the inverse of the well-known CGPA × 9.5 conversion. Enter your percentage and the tool shows the indicative CGPA on a 10-point scale instantly; you can change the divisor if your university uses a different rule. This is an educational estimate to help you read a percentage as a CGPA, not an official grade. Indian universities do not all use the same conversion (for example, Anna University uses percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75, and VTU differs), so always check your institution’s official method before using a figure for admissions or applications. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored. The calculation happens on your device.

Examples

  • Percentage 8080 ÷ 9.5 = 8.42 CGPA (rounded).
  • Percentage 9595 ÷ 9.5 = 10 CGPA. This is the anchor point of the CBSE scale.
  • Percentage 77.977.9 ÷ 9.5 = 8.2 CGPA, the exact inverse of 8.2 × 9.5.
  • Why divide by 9.5

The CBSE forward formula is percentage = CGPA × 9.5, anchored to the average marks (~95) of A1-grade students. Reversing it gives CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5. Because it is built on a historical average, the result is indicative rather than an exact grade point.

  • Sources and limitations

This tool is an educational estimate only and is not affiliated with CBSE or any board or university. The 9.5 divisor is the CBSE indicative convention; other Indian universities use different rules (Anna University uses percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75, and VTU uses its own scale) so the result may not match your official record. Conversion rules can change. Always check your institution’s official method before relying on a figure for admissions, jobs, or applications.
