A free class average calculator that turns a list of scores into a mean average, along with the count and the lowest and highest values. Add a row per score, in percentages or points, and the numbers update as you type. It is handy for a teacher averaging a set of results, or a student averaging their own grades. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is stored.
How to use this tool
- 01Add the scoresEach row is one score. Add or remove rows to match how many you have.
- 02Keep the unit consistentUse all percentages or all points, so the average is meaningful.
- 03Read the resultsThe average, count, lowest, and highest update as you type.
When is this useful?
- Average a set of gradesEnter every student’s score to get the class average for an assignment.
- Average your own gradesList your results to see your mean and your range.
- Spot the spreadThe lowest and highest show the range around the average at a glance.
Examples
- Four scoresScores of 88, 92, 76, and 95 give an average of 87.75 across 4 values, with a low of 76 and a high of 95.
- One valueA single score returns itself as the average, with the count at 1.
- Ignoring blanksEmpty rows are skipped, so you can add spare rows without affecting the average.
Formula and how the calculation works
The average is the mean: add all the scores and divide by how many there are. The tool also tracks the count and scans for the smallest and largest values as you type.
Inputs, outputs, and assumptions
You enter a list of scores. The tool returns the average, the count, the lowest, and the highest. It assumes every score counts equally; use the weighted grade calculator if some scores should count more.
Supported modes or scenarios
Add as many scores as you need and remove any you do not. Blank rows are ignored, so the count reflects only the values you actually entered.
Limitations and common mistakes
A common mistake is mixing percentages and raw points in the same list, which makes the average meaningless. This tool gives the simple mean; it does not weight scores, drop outliers, or compute a median.
Privacy and local processing
The calculation runs in your browser on your device. Your scores are never uploaded, stored, or shared, and closing the tab clears everything.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the mean or the median?
It is the mean: the sum of the scores divided by the count. It does not compute a median.
Can I mix percentages and points?
No. Keep the unit consistent, or the average will not be meaningful.
Do blank rows count?
No. Empty rows are skipped, so the count reflects only the scores you entered.
How many scores can I add?
As many as you need. Use the add button to append rows.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter is stored.
