Test Score Calculator
Turn correct answers (or points earned) out of the total into a percentage score. Runs in your browser.
Letter grades depend on your school’s scale (for example 90%+ may be an A in one place and not another), so this tool shows the percentage. Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.
A free test score calculator that turns a raw result into a percentage. Enter how many questions were correct (or how many points were earned) and the total, and the tool shows the percentage score. It works for a quiz marked out of questions or a test marked out of points, and it is a quick way to grade a stack of papers or check your own result. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is stored.

When is this useful?
- Grade a quizMark a quiz out of the number of questions and read the percentage instantly.
- Points-based testsEnter points earned out of total points for a test graded by points.
- Check your own resultSee what a raw score works out to before a letter grade is applied.
Examples
- 18 out of 2018 correct out of 20 questions is 90%.
- Points earned45 points out of 60 is 75%.
- A perfect paper25 out of 25 is 100%.
Formula and how the calculation works
The percentage is simply the part over the whole: score = earned / total x 100. Whether you count questions or points, the ratio is the same, so a test marked out of 60 points behaves like one marked out of 60 questions.
Inputs, outputs, and assumptions
You enter the correct answers (or points earned) and the total. The tool returns the percentage. It assumes every question or point is worth the same amount; use the weighted grade calculator if items carry different weights.
Supported modes or scenarios
Use it for questions correct out of a total, or points earned out of total points. For partial credit, enter the points earned rather than a whole number of questions.
Limitations and common mistakes
A common mistake is swapping the two fields, or including bonus points in the earned box but not the total, which can push the score above 100%. This tool does not assign a letter grade, because scales differ. Schools use different grading scales, weightings, and rounding rules, so treat the result as an educational estimate and confirm it against your course syllabus or school policy.
Privacy and local processing
The calculation runs in your browser on your device. Nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or shared, and closing the tab clears everything.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for points, not just questions?
Yes. Enter points earned and total points; the percentage is the same ratio either way.
Why not show a letter grade?
Letter cutoffs vary by school and course, so a percentage is the honest, portable result. Apply your own scale to it.
Can the score go over 100%?
Only if you enter bonus or extra-credit points in the earned box without adding them to the total. Otherwise it stays at 100% or below.
What about partial credit?
Enter the points earned (including partial credit) and the total points available.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter is stored.
