Addition/subtraction: the denominators are matched by cross-multiplying, then the numerators are added or subtracted. Multiplication: numerator times numerator, denominator times denominator. Division: the second fraction is inverted (numerator and denominator swapped), then multiplied. The final result is always simplified to its lowest terms using the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator.

You enter the numerator and denominator for two fractions, then pick an operation. The tool shows the result as a simplified fraction, a mixed number (when the numerator is larger than the denominator), a decimal, and a percent. The denominator cannot be zero, and dividing by a fraction equal to zero is not allowed (same as dividing by zero with ordinary numbers).

You can enter a negative numerator for a negative fraction (for example, -1/2). To enter a mixed number (like 2 1/3), convert it to an improper fraction first (2 1/3 = 7/3) before typing it in — this calculator accepts input as a plain fraction (numerator/denominator), not directly as a mixed number.

A common mistake is forgetting to convert a mixed number to an improper fraction before entering it. This calculator does not support operating on more than two fractions at once — for three or more fractions, compute two first, then use that result as one of the inputs for the next calculation.

How do I enter a mixed number like 2 1/3?

Convert it to an improper fraction first: 2 1/3 = (2 × 3 + 1)/3 = 7/3. Enter 7 as the numerator and 3 as the denominator.

How do I convert one fraction to a decimal or percent?

Enter that fraction as the first fraction, set the second fraction to 0/1, and choose the add operation. The result shows the decimal and percent form of the first fraction.

Is the result automatically simplified?

Yes. The final result is always shown in its simplest form, divided by the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator.

Why can the denominator not be zero?

Division by zero is undefined in math, so a fraction's denominator (and the divisor in a division operation) cannot be zero.
