Quick answer: this is a free weight and mass converter that runs entirely in your browser. Enter a value, pick a source unit and a target unit, and you get an instant result. Six units are supported: milligram (mg), gram (g), kilogram (kg), metric ton (t), ounce (oz, the standard avoirdupois ounce), and pound (lb). You can swap the source and target with one click, use the quick-conversion buttons, and read a reference table that shows your value in all six units at once. This is a mass unit converter only. It is not a BMI calculator, diet, fitness, nutrition, or medical tool, and not a precious-metals (troy ounce or carat) calculator. Everything happens on your device: the value, the units, and the result are never stored and never sent to a server. Refreshing the page resets everything.
How to use this tool
- 01Enter a valueType a number in the "Value to convert" field. Decimals are allowed (for example 2.5 or 0.125), and zero is allowed. Negative values do not make sense for weight, so a short note is shown instead of a result.
- 02Choose the unitsPick a source unit (default: gram) and a target unit (default: kilogram). Use the Swap button to flip them in one click. The result updates immediately on every change.
- 03Use the quick conversionsSix ready-made conversions are provided (1 kg to grams, 1 kg to pounds, 100 g to ounces, 1 lb to grams, 1 oz to grams, 1 ton to kg). One tap fills in both the value and the units at once.
- 04See the value in every unitBelow the result, a short reference table shows your value in all six units at the same time. Handy for a quick cross-check or to read a third unit without changing your selection.
- 05Copy the resultThe Copy result button copies a short summary line (for example "100 g = 3.5274 oz") that you can paste anywhere. There is no print or download button.
When is this useful?
- Cooking from a recipe in another systemA recipe asks for 8 ounces of butter. Convert 8 oz to grams and you get about 226.8 g, so you can measure it on a kitchen scale without hunting for a calculator.
- Working out a shipping or parcel weightA courier form wants the weight in pounds. Convert from kilograms (1.5 kg to pounds is about 3.31 lb) and use the exact number the carrier expects.
- Reading a label in unfamiliar unitsA product label lists 250 oz for a bulk order. Converting to kilograms gives about 7.09 kg, which is easier to plan loading and shipping around.
- Checking a nutrition or supplement labelLabels often mix milligrams and grams. Convert between mg and g in one tap to avoid decimal-point mistakes when comparing amounts.
- Fitness and gym platesA plate set is marked in pounds but your log is in kilograms. Convert 45 lb to about 20.41 kg, or check what a 20 kg plate is in pounds, in a second.
- Planning a bulk or freight shipmentA 3-ton industrial order converts to 3,000 kg in one tap. Note that "ton" here always means the metric ton, not the US or UK ton.
Examples
- 1 kg in every unit1 kilogram = 1,000 grams = 1,000,000 milligrams = 0.001 metric ton = 35.274 ounces (avoirdupois) = 2.2046 pounds. So 1 kg is about 2.205 lb.
- 1 oz in grams1 ounce = 28.349523125 grams exactly, usually rounded to 28.35 g. The avoirdupois ounce is defined as 1/16 of a pound.
- 1 lb in grams1 pound = 453.59237 grams exactly, about 453.6 g, under the 1959 international yard-and-pound agreement. 16 oz make 1 lb.
- 100 g in ounces100 grams is about 3.5274 ounces. Useful when following a recipe written in ounces.
Tips for a better result
- Metric ton vs. short ton and long tonIn this tool "ton" always means the metric ton (1,000 kg). The US short ton (about 907.18 kg) and the UK long ton (about 1,016.05 kg) are not supported. If your source mentions a short or long ton, adjust manually.
- Standard ounce, not troy ounceThe avoirdupois ounce (28.349523125 g) is used for food, body weight, and everyday products. The troy ounce (about 31.1 g) is used for precious metals and is not supported here. This is a general mass converter only.
- Precision belongs to the unit, not your scaleThe result is an exact mathematical conversion between units. If the source value is already rounded ("about 250 g"), the result carries that same rounding. To know what your scale actually reads, weigh again.
- Your value stays with youThe number you enter stays only on your device. It is not sent over the network and not stored. If you are comparing weights at work, the tool is a good fit for privacy as well.
Metric vs. imperial mass units
Metric units relate by powers of ten: 1 g = 1,000 mg, 1 kg = 1,000 g, and 1 metric ton = 1,000 kg. The imperial and US customary units used here are the avoirdupois ounce and pound: 16 oz make 1 lb, and 1 lb = 453.59237 g exactly. The bridge between the two systems is fixed by definition (1 oz = 28.349523125 g), so converting kg to lbs or grams to ounces is exact, not an approximation. This tool converts every input to grams as a base, then to your target unit, so all six units stay consistent with each other.
Common conversions at a glance
Frequent everyday conversions: • 1 kg = 2.2046 lb (about 2.205 lb) • 1 lb = 0.4536 kg = 453.6 g • 1 oz = 28.35 g • 100 g = 3.5274 oz • 1 kg = 35.274 oz • 1 g = 1,000 mg • 1 metric ton = 1,000 kg These cover most cooking, shipping, and fitness needs. For anything else, type the exact value and read the full reference table.
Common weight conversions
The pairs people look up most, with their values: • kg to lbs: 1 kg = 2.20462 lb (and 1 lb = 0.453592 kg) • grams to ounces: 1 oz = 28.3495 g (and 1 g = 0.035274 oz) • pounds to ounces: 1 lb = 16 oz • kg to grams: 1 kg = 1,000 g • mg to grams: 1 g = 1,000 mg • metric ton to kg: 1 metric ton = 1,000 kg Type any value and the reference table shows it in all six units at once.
What this tool does not do
It does not calculate BMI, suggest an ideal body weight, or give diet, nutrition, fitness, or medical advice. It does not track the weight of babies, children, or pets. It is also not a precious-metals calculator (troy ounce, carat, grams of gold), not a jewelry tool, and it does not recommend scales, measuring gear, or any brand. It is strictly a mass unit converter for everyday use.
Mass vs. weight, kept simple
In everyday language "weight" and "mass" are used interchangeably, and that is fine for this tool. Strictly speaking, mass is the amount of matter (measured in grams or kilograms) while weight is a force. For the conversions here, kg, g, lb, and oz are treated as units of mass, which is what scales and recipes mean in practice. You do not need to worry about the distinction to use the converter.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. The value you enter, the units you choose, and every input are not stored, not sent to a server, and not passed to analytics. Refreshing the page resets everything. There is no sign-up, no account, and no tracking of the value entered or the result.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert kg to lbs?
Enter the value, set the source unit to kilogram and the target unit to pound. 1 kg is about 2.205 lb, so 5 kg is about 11.02 lb. The result updates instantly.
How do I convert grams to ounces?
Set the source unit to gram and the target to ounce. 100 g is about 3.5274 oz, since 1 oz = 28.349523125 g (the standard avoirdupois ounce). Useful for recipes written in ounces.
How do I convert pounds to kg?
Set the source unit to pound and the target to kilogram. 1 lb = 0.4536 kg, so 10 lb is about 4.536 kg. You can tap Swap to flip the conversion the other way.
How many pounds in a kilogram?
1 kilogram is about 2.20462 pounds. Going the other way, 1 pound is about 0.453592 kg. So 5 kg is roughly 11.02 lb.
How many ounces in a pound?
Exactly 16 ounces make 1 pound (avoirdupois). So 1 oz = 28.3495 g and 16 oz = 1 lb = 453.59237 g.
How many grams in a kilogram?
1 kilogram = 1,000 grams exactly. Metric units relate by powers of ten, so converting kg to grams is just multiplying by 1,000.
How many milligrams in a gram?
1 gram = 1,000 milligrams. To go from mg to grams, divide by 1,000 (for example 500 mg = 0.5 g).
Which units are supported?
Six units: milligram (mg), gram (g), kilogram (kg), metric ton, ounce (standard avoirdupois), and pound. Troy ounce, carat, and the US/UK ton are not supported.
Is the ounce here the troy ounce?
No. The ounce here is the avoirdupois ounce (28.349523125 g) used for food and shipping. The troy ounce (about 31.1 g), used for precious metals, is not supported by this tool.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
In everyday use they mean the same thing, and that is how this tool treats kg, g, lb, and oz. Strictly, mass is the amount of matter and weight is a force, but you do not need that distinction to convert units here.
How precise are the results?
The conversion factors are exact (1 oz = 28.349523125 g, 1 lb = 453.59237 g). The displayed number is trimmed for readability. If your source value is already rounded, the result will reflect that rounding.
Is anything I enter uploaded or stored?
No. The entire calculation runs in your browser. The value, the units, and the result are not stored, not sent to a server, and not passed to analytics. Refreshing the page resets everything. The tool is free with no sign-up.
