A free tutoring session planner for private tutors, one-to-one teachers, and academic coaches. Enter your session length, and get a time-blocked agenda built on the standard tutoring lesson structure: warm-up, teach the new concept, guided practice, independent practice, and wrap-up. Add a start time to see real clock times for each block, write a short note under each phase for what to cover, and set a homework or next-steps line. This is a single-session agenda, not a multi-day study calendar — for spreading topics across the days before an exam, use the Study Planner instead. Runs entirely in your browser, no sign-up and nothing saved.

How to use this tool

  1. 01Set the subject and session lengthEnter the subject and student name (optional), then pick a session length from the presets or a custom number of minutes.
  2. 02Turn phases on or offAll five phases are on by default. Turn any off if it does not apply to this session, and adjust the time each phase gets by its weight.
  3. 03Add notes for each phaseWrite a short note under each phase for exactly what to cover, so the printed agenda works as a real lesson plan, not just a timer.
  4. 04Print or copyPrint the agenda, save it as a PDF, or copy it as text to paste into your notes.

When is this useful?

  • A private tutor structuring a lessonTurn a subject and a session length into a clear agenda: what to review, what to teach, and how much time each part gets.
  • A new tutor building consistencyUse the same five-phase structure every session so lessons stay organized even for a first-time tutor.
  • A trial or first sessionPlan a first session with a new student with clear time blocks for warm-up, a diagnostic-style guided practice, and a wrap-up to set expectations.
  • A group or pod sessionStructure a small-group session with the same phases, adjusting guided vs. independent practice time for a group pace.
03

Examples

  • 60-minute math sessionWarm-up (6 min), teach fractions (18 min), guided practice (18 min), independent practice (12 min), wrap-up (6 min).
  • 30-minute quick reviewA short session with warm-up, guided practice, and wrap-up only — independent practice and new instruction turned off.
  • 90-minute exam-prep sessionMore time on guided and independent practice, a longer wrap-up to set specific homework goals.
04

Tips for a better result

  • Keep warm-up shortA five-to-ten-minute warm-up is usually enough to check the previous homework and re-activate the last session's material.
  • Watch during independent practiceIndependent practice works best when the tutor stays quiet and observes, stepping in only when the student is genuinely stuck.
  • End with one clear next stepA wrap-up that names one specific thing to practice before next time is more useful than a general "keep practicing" note.
  • Reuse notes across similar sessionsPrint a few agendas at once for a recurring subject, then fill in the exact concept for each session by hand.

How the tool splits the time

The tool takes your total session length and splits it across the phases you leave on, giving more time to phases with a higher weight (teaching and guided practice default to more time than warm-up or wrap-up). Each block is rounded to a clean 5-minute increment, and the blocks always add up to exactly your session length.

06

Study Planner vs. Session Planner

The Study Planner spreads a list of topics across the days or weeks before an exam — a multi-day calendar. This tool structures a single session's internal flow — a one-page agenda for the next hour. Use the Study Planner to plan what to cover across a course of sessions, and this tool to plan the inside of any one of them.

07

Privacy

The agenda is built entirely in your browser. The subject, student name, notes, and homework are never sent to a server or saved. Refreshing the page resets the plan. Analytics only receive a generic outcome (e.g. "was used"), never the content you entered.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tutoring session planner?

A tool that turns a session length into a time-blocked agenda using the standard tutoring lesson structure: warm-up, teach, guided practice, independent practice, and wrap-up. You can print it or save it as a PDF.

How is this different from a study planner?

A study planner spreads topics across many days before an exam. This tool plans the inside of one session — a single lesson agenda, not a multi-day calendar.

Can I turn off a phase I do not need?

Yes. Every phase has an on/off toggle. Turning one off removes it from the agenda and gives its time to the remaining phases.

Does it show real clock times?

If you enter a start time, every block shows an actual start and end time (e.g. 4:00-4:18 PM). Leave it blank to see just the minutes for each phase.

Does the tool save my plan?

No. Everything is built in your browser only, with no saving and no sign-up. Refreshing the page resets it. Print it, save it as a PDF, or copy it as text to keep a copy.

Is this suitable for a group or pod session?

Yes. The same five-phase structure works for a small group — adjust the weight on guided and independent practice to match how the group works together.
