01

How to use this tool

  1. 01Choose a modeAdd GCT starts from a net (pre-tax) price. Remove GCT starts from a gross (GCT-inclusive) price. GCT amount shows the tax on a net price.
  2. 02Enter the amountType the amount in Jamaican dollars (JMD). The 15% standard rate is applied by default; you can also enter a different rate manually, for example 25% for telephone services and handsets.
  3. 03Read net, GCT, and grossThe tool shows all three figures at once, so you can copy the net, the tax, or the GCT-inclusive price you need.
02

When is this useful?

  • Invoices and quotesAdd GCT at 15% to a net amount to show the GCT-inclusive total, or work back to the taxable value from a gross figure.
  • Small business pricingSet a net price and see the GCT-inclusive figure to quote or display to customers.
  • Checking a receiptRemove GCT from a gross total to see the pre-tax price and the tax charged.
03

Examples

  • Add 15% GCTA net price of JMD 1,000 at 15% becomes JMD 1,150, with JMD 150 GCT.
  • Remove GCTA gross price of JMD 1,150 at 15% contains JMD 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = JMD 1,000 net, so the GCT is JMD 150.
04

Tips for a better result

  • Check the telephone rate and exemptions firstTelephone services and handsets are taxed at 25%, not the 15% standard rate, and basic food items, medicines, and some other goods are zero-rated or exempt — this tool applies the rate you enter, so confirm the correct treatment for your item before relying on the result.
05

Formula and how the calculation works

GCT is a percentage of the price. To add GCT, multiply the net price by 1 plus the rate (for 15%, by 1.15). To take GCT out of a GCT-inclusive price, divide by that same figure to get the net, then subtract to find the tax. The GCT amount mode shows the rate applied to the net price.

06

Current GCT rate and official source

Jamaica's standard General Consumption Tax (GCT) rate is 15%, administered by Tax Administration Jamaica (jamaicatax.gov.jm). Telephone services (including phone cards) and handsets are taxed at 25%. Basic food items, prescription medicines, and exports are zero-rated, and financial, education, and health services are exempt. The rate shown is current as of 2026. Tooleem is not affiliated with Tax Administration Jamaica. Rates and rules can change, so check the official source before you rely on a figure.

07

Supported modes and assumptions

The calculator has three modes: Add GCT (from a net price), Remove GCT (from a gross, GCT-inclusive price), and GCT amount (the tax on a net price). It applies one rate to the whole amount and does not split a mixed-rate invoice, and it does not determine whether a specific item is zero-rated, exempt, or taxed at the 25% telephone rate.
