Random Name Picker

Pick a random name from a list you keep, with the option to remove each name after picking so it cannot be drawn again. Useful for raffles, calling on students, and drawing winners.

Share toolWhatsApp

A free random name picker for drawing one name at a time from a list you keep. Type or paste your names, then pick one at random with a click — optionally removing each picked name so it cannot be drawn again. Useful for raffles, calling on students without repeats, assigning tasks, or drawing giveaway winners. This uses ordinary browser randomness suited for casual selection, not a cryptographically secure or audited-fair random source. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing is stored.

  2. 02Choose whether to remove picked namesTurn on "Remove each name after it is picked" if you want every draw to be from names not yet picked, like a raffle without repeat winners.

02

When is this useful?

  • Classroom cold-calling without repeatsCall on students one at a time without repeating the same name until everyone has had a turn.
  • Raffles and giveawaysDraw winners one at a time from an entry list, with each winner removed so they cannot win twice.
  • Assigning tasks or turn orderRandomly assign who goes first, or who gets which task, from a list of participants.
03

Examples

  • A classroom rosterEnter 25 student names with "remove after pick" on, and call on a different student each time until the list is empty.
  • A repeatable raffle drawEnter entries with "remove after pick" off if you want to allow the same name to potentially be picked again on a future draw.
04

How picking and removal work

Each pick selects one name at random from the current list. With removal turned on, that name is taken out of the list immediately, so every future pick only draws from names not yet chosen — once the list is empty, no more names can be picked. With removal turned off, every pick is independent, and the same name could be picked again.

05

Editing the list mid-session

You can remove a specific name manually at any time by clicking the × next to it, without waiting for it to be picked. Click "Edit list" to go back and change the full list of names, which resets the current picking session.

06

How the randomness works

This tool uses your browser's standard random number source, suited for everyday, casual selection. It is not a cryptographically secure or independently audited random source, so it is not intended for high-stakes drawings that require certified fairness.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pick more than one name at a time?

This tool picks one name per click. For multiple winners, click "Pick a name" repeatedly — with removal on, each pick comes from the remaining names.

What happens when every name has been picked?

Once the list is empty (with removal turned on), the pick button is disabled until you edit the list to add more names.

Can I remove a name without picking it?

Yes. Click the × next to any name in the list to remove it manually at any time.

Does this support duplicate names?

Yes. If the same name appears twice in your list, both entries are kept and can be picked independently.

Is this suitable for an official raffle or contest?

For casual raffles and classroom use, yes. For a legally regulated drawing, check your local requirements, since some jurisdictions require a certified random-selection process.

Is my data saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
