Why a link beats posting your number
A phone number in a bio asks the reader to do several things: select it, copy it, switch apps, create a contact, then find that contact in WhatsApp. Each step loses people, and on mobile the copying is genuinely fiddly. A wa.me link collapses all of it into one tap that lands in a chat. It also works for numbers the person has never saved, which is the case that otherwise blocks the conversation entirely — WhatsApp will not let you message an unsaved number through the normal interface.
What the pre-filled message does and does not do
The message is placed in the recipient's input box, not sent. They see it, can change it, and have to press send themselves.
