A free tool to convert a PNG into an ICO icon file, right in your browser. ICO is the classic icon format used for website favicons and desktop icons, and a single ICO can hold several sizes so it looks sharp everywhere. Pick the sizes you want, convert, and download one ICO file. For a clean result, start from a square PNG with a transparent background. Everything runs locally on your device, with no upload to a server.

  • Desktop or app iconTurn a logo PNG into an ICO for a shortcut or a small application icon.
  • Consistent brandingGenerate a multi-size icon from a single source so it stays sharp at every size.

Examples

  • A logo to favicon.icoA 512px transparent logo becomes an ICO containing 16, 32, and 48 px versions for a website.
  • A high-detail iconInclude 256px in the ICO for high-DPI displays alongside the smaller sizes.
  • A quick shortcut iconConvert a square PNG to a 48px ICO for a desktop shortcut.
04

Tips for a better result

  • Start squareA square source keeps the icon from stretching. Non-square images are centered and scaled to fit.
  • Keep transparencyA transparent PNG gives an icon that blends into any background.
  • Include small sizes16 and 32 px matter most for browser tabs; add 48 and larger for other uses.
05

How the conversion works

For each size you select, the tool scales your PNG onto a square canvas and encodes it as PNG data, then packs all of those images into a single ICO file. Modern systems read PNG data inside an ICO, so no extra conversion is needed.

06

Supported formats and browser compatibility

Input is a PNG, ideally square and transparent. The ICO can include the standard icon sizes 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels, and one ICO file holds several of them so the icon stays sharp wherever it appears. ICO is read by browsers for favicons and by Windows.

07

Limitations and quality notes

ICO is meant for favicons and Windows icons, not a full brand or export system. Sizes are capped at 256 pixels, and non-square images are centered and scaled to fit, which can leave transparent padding. Files up to 10MB are supported.

08

Privacy and local processing

Your PNG is resized and packed into the ICO entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored, so your logo or icon never leaves your device.
